What You'll Be Doing: Key Responsibilities
As a key member of our team, you will be crucial in ensuring a positive experience for walk-in customers and managing counter operations:
- Greet and assist customers with fastener selection, providing technical guidance, and answering product specifications questions.
- Direct customers to product locations and provide tools (e.g., bolt gauges) to accurately identify correct parts.
- Utilize our inventory system to look up parts, check stock levels, and verify warehouse locations.
- Accurately process sales transactions via a POS system (cash, card, check), and generate correct billing for accounts on commerical terms.
- Process phone orders and answer inquiries regarding order status and stock availability.
- Understand and clearly explain lead times, backorders, and special order processes to customers.
- Process returns and exchanges efficiently and accurately.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and tidy environment at the front counter and throughout the general store areas.
- Assist with essential inventory management tasks, including restocking, binning, and maintaining system accuracy.
- Coordinate closely with the warehouse team to ensure prompt and accurate order fulfillment.
- Actively build and maintain strong, positive relationships with our valued commercial accounts.
What You'll Bring: Requirements
- Mechanical Aptitude: A strong ability to learn and quickly understand fastener specifications, types, and applications.
- Workflow Management: Excellent ability to balance serving individual customers at the counter while keeping counter operations running smoothly.
- Computer Skills: Comfortable navigating and utilizing inventory/ERP systems and POS software for lookups and processing.
- Business Acumen: An understanding of basic business operations, including Purchase Orders (POs), inventory management, and commercial payment terms.
- Detail-Oriented: A commitment to accuracy to ensure customers receive the exact parts they need and transactions are processed correctly.
- Communication Skills: The ability to communicate effectively and professionally with both customers and internal warehouse staff.
- Problem-Solving & Initiative: A resourceful attitude and ability to take the initiative to solve customer issues.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, move products, and lift up to 45 lbs.
- Preferred Experience: Prior experience in retail, warehouse, hardware, or similar operations is a plus.
